Doran J. Riehl DDS graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1993 and returned home to Yakima, WA to practice Dentistry beside his father Ronald Riehl DDS.  In keeping with the forward thinking traditions that his father established, Dr. Doran Riehl continues to focus on cutting edge health trends in dentistry.

Over the last 10 years, Dentistry has expanded to investigate the relationship between good oral health and general health.  The current research is exciting and powerful, suggesting that good periodontal health (healthy gums) contributes directly to increased longevity.  Periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and stroke among a myriad of other disorders.  Dentists have always known that maintaining healthy gums will help patients keep their teeth.  Recent studies prove that not only do healthy gums mean healthy teeth; they mean improvement in overall health and longevity.

Unhealthy gum tissue leads to chronic infection and inflammation. When inflammation is eliminated, dentists and physicians have a chance to work together to control everything from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and problems associated with pre-term pregnancy.  75% of adults suffer from periodontal inflammatory disease.  It is apparent that this problem is of epidemic proportion and needs multidisciplinary attention.

Dr. Doran Riehl is part of an advanced group of practitioners that recognize the connection between oral and general health. This proactive group of dental professionals has developed a protocol that includes utilizing the CO2 laser to restore periodontal health.  On the forefront of technology, this laser is an instrument that has the capacity to kill the bacteria that contribute not only to periodontal disease, but also to the systemic inflammation that plays such a major role in diseases as profound as diabetes and heart disease.

There is no question that controlling inflammation in the mouth will save lives.  Dr Riehl and his dedicated team believe in the importance of good oral health and its relationship to overall health.  They are committed to working with you and your medical providers in a cohesive and professional manner not only to enhance your smile, but to improve your life.
